Breakneck Ridge Info

WELCOME TO BREAKNECK!

There are numerous trails--marked and unmarked--in the Breakneck Ridge area, and almost all hikes here are considered strenuous. Below are links to descriptions of two of the most popular hikes.

Breakneck Trail Stewards and volunteersOn weekends Memorial Day Weekend through Veterans Day, our Breakneck Trail Stewards (right) are available at the Breakneck trailhead with maps (highly recommended), water (highly recommended), trail condition updates, and other tips to help you enjoy your day.

We hope you enjoy your hike and invite you to get involved by helping to care for the trails you love. Stop by at the trailhead info station, say Hi!, and learn more about how the Trail Conference supports great hiking in our region.

The Stewards will be sharing photos and experiences via the Trail Conference Twitter account twitter.com/NYNJTC. Follow it to keep up with weekend news from Breakneck.

Two Popular Hikes

  • Said to be the most popular hike in the country, this strenuous rock scramble is not for everyone. Click to read the detailed description: Breakneck Ridge Loop, or scroll down and watch the video from "Unboring Exploring."

PLEASE NOTE THAT BREAKNECK RIDGE GETS VERY CROWDED, ESPECIALLY ON WEEKENDS. Consider these alternative hikes.
