Lower Hudson Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM) is hosted by the NY-NJ Trail Conference and is dedicated to protecting the Lower Hudson region's biodiversity & ecosystems with a focus on controlling the harmful impacts of invasive species. 

Last month, we held our Lower Hudson PRISM partner meeting at Black Rock Forest (BRF). We were excited to have so many partners and participants join us, including a handful of our very own Invasives Strike Force Surveyor volunteers! It was a thoroughly eventful and productive meeting that included hands-on strategic planning workshopping and brainstorming as well as a field trip outdoors highlighting BRF’s rapid invasive species survey work supported by an LH PRISM subcontract. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to our strategic planning process, and a special thank you to BRF for hosting!

We are continuing to work with and want to thank strategic planning consultant, Karen Strong of Strong Outcomes, LLC, for helping to guide this process with a goal towards publishing our final LH PRISM 5-year Strategic Plan by the end of March 2024.  More to come soon!

We are excited to announce the new members of the Lower Hudson PRISM Steering Committee! The LH PRISM Steering Committee helps to provide expert advice, perspective and leadership that support LH PRISM's mission to organize and implement invasive species management, education and outreach priorities and initiatives for our region. The four new members voted into the committee for a new three-year term will be Budd Veverka (Mianus River Gorge), Keri VanCamp (Vassar), Jessica Schuler (Westchester County Parks), and Tom Lewis (Trillium Invasive Species Management) - We look forward to working with you! Thank you, everyone, for your votes, and thank you to all of our participating nominees.

Help educate the public on topics including responsible recreation, native plant factoids, pollinator-friendly gardening, invasive species identification and prevention, and more! We are looking for contributions to our social media education and outreach efforts (as seen here). Do you have an invasive species project idea that could use the help of our Invasives Strike Force (ISF) Crew? Then good news! We have just released our call for project proposals to engage our ISF Crew this 2024 field season. 

Each year, the Invasives Strike Force takes on invasive species control projects of local and regional importance, using the best management practices available to address approved priority projects at no cost to the landowner. The ISF Crew are a boots on the ground early detection, rapid response crew that travels throughout the Lower Hudson Valley to manage priority invasive species populations. Priorities are outlined in the application, but in general, the ISF prioritizes management of invasive species with low regional abundance and high invasiveness potential (Tier 2), as well as projects that protect conservation targets and/or have notable social and recreational value. Projects completed by the ISF must take place within the Lower Hudson PRISM boundaries in New York. The due date for this application is Friday, February 9, 2024 at 5pm.
